Hotel Review. Koulnoué Village Hotel
The Koulnoué Village Hotel, 3* property located on the wild East side of New Caledonia main island, is part of Grands Hotels NC hotel group. The hotel is the perfect retreat for explorers travelling across the country, families and any back-to-nature seekers. Guests are welcomed by smiley receptionnists with colourful flower and tribal motifs dresses. Spacious renewed seafront hotel rooms ensure a relaxed stay, as well as the numerous coconut trees and the sound of the waves...
We stayed in a standard room as on the picture. There is also another level of room with a private swimming pool on the deck terrasse, which is closed for more privacy.
Our overall stay was great, although we could not open the windows to fall asleep with the sound of the waves because there is no mosquito net, what a shame!
The amenities are ok for a 3 star hotel; kettle, coffee and tea, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, which is a must nowadays.
Just one word, Great. The Koulnoué Villlage Hotel provides rich flavours from local cuisine. The bar is an open space with access to a covered wooden deck, which leads to the restaurant in front of the coconut tree garden and the beach.
Breakfast: Good variety of continental buffet choice, self service machine coffee (ok coffee), the bread choice should be improved at breakfast. A cook is available for on demand egs, pancakes, etc.
Lunch: A a carte. Tasty and generous meals with fresh fish. It was delicious.
Dinner: A la carte or buffet but ATTENTION! You need to book your "a la carte" table in advance, otherwise they make you take the buffet, which is more expensive! They say that they can serve up to 15 a la carte tables at night. It is disappointing and they should ask about your choice at breakfast, everyday.
Things to do
The sourroundings of the hotel are totally wild and beautiful, with big King Kong style huge rocky mountains and virgin beaches. You can relax at the hotel swimmingpool but we recommend to take the car and drive around to discover hidden nature spots. There is a Horse Riding Club at the hotel, which is fantanstic to visit around.
Otherwise, there is a botanical garden and a boating club at 5 min drive in which you can rent kayaks or paddle boards. There are no water sports equipement at the hotel as the sea is pretty rough during the day, constant waves and wind.
At weekends, the hotels hosts Tahitian Dance shows and Music performances at night. We did not get to see that.
The overall resort was ok. A well kept garden, reception okay although a bit of tidyness was missing.
The room was clean but not to detail, which is a huge point for us. We had to ask to mop the floor the next day of arrival, as the cleaning lady was just sweeping it. This should be a daily must in a 3 star beach resort. Don't you think?
Overall comfortable and rich nature experience. The food was great as well as the staff. We recommend this hotel. You can book the Koulnoué Village Hotel in Booking.com We did it that way and it was fast, with the best price benchmarked and with the accurate details of the room that we were going to have.
